Business Units

Dictaphone is focused principally on the automation of dictated narrative documentation processes within the report intensive environments of healthcare, as well as commercial markets including legal, insurance, and public safety.

Established Healthcare Market Focus

We believe that the Company’s strong healthcare focus and broad presence within this important market offers significant long term growth potential, and that industry trends toward promoting electronic health records and investments in information technology improves the climate for Dictaphone’s success.

Dictaphone’s strategy is to create a company focused principally on the healthcare information technology market. Dictaphone deploys dictation, transcription, and speech recognition software systems in over half of the hospitals in the U.S. Its solutions automate critical elements in the creation and management of health information, helping healthcare organizations improve productivity and the quality of patient care.

“For several years, we have experienced strong growth and developed a leading product portfolio based on speech recognition and natural language processing technologies in our healthcare business,” said Rob Schwager, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dictaphone Corporation.

Dictaphone is ranked 26th in Healthcare Informatics top 100 companies by healthcare revenue, as the leading provider of dictation, transcription, speech recognition, and natural language processing systems to this market.

Commercial Markets
Dictaphone is also the leading provider of highly scalable dictation systems and multimedia archiving solutions focused on the legal, insurance, and public safety markets.

Dictaphone also owns and operates an electronics manufacturing facility in Melbourne, Florida, which produces complex electronics products and components for Dictaphone and third-party customers. Dictaphone is headquartered in Stratford, Connecticut, and has worldwide marketing, sales, service, and support organizations throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Europe.

Products & Solutions
Healthcare Solutions

Dictaphone's Healthcare Solutions Group offers solutions in three primary categories:

  1. Enterprise-wide solutions for hospitals and large clinics
  2. Departmental solutions, focusing on, for example, Radiology
  3. Internet-based products, which are scalable to clinics, physician groups and transcription companies.

Core Dictaphone speech recognition technology has delivered measurable and significant gains in productivity (50-75% transcriptionist productivity gains), and real-dollar savings (typical ROI under 12 months) for healthcare organizations. Dictaphone speech recognition automates the creation of documentation for over 30,000 physicians, who dictate findings and either self-edit their accurate speech-recognized drafts, or have them completed by transcriptionists.

Through its ability to leverage the workflow management capabilities of its Enterprise Express® dictation/transcription solution, used by some 3,500 hospitals and medical facilities, Dictaphone has a clear advantage in offering simplified speech recognition roll-out across the healthcare enterprise, with minimal change to existing workflow patterns and physician dictation preferences.

Enterprise Express is a family of integrated digital dictation, transcription, and report management solutions. Enterprise Express allows healthcare organizations to manage dictated voice input, report-transcription, and distribution across multiple departments and facilities, while centrally managing system supervisory functions and workflow.

The Enterprise Express family consists of the Enterprise Express VoiceSystem, a dictation and transcription software suite with workflow management tools, and the Enterprise Express TextSystem, a transcription and document management system.

EXSpeech®, the fully integrated speech recognition complement to Enterprise Express, offers the ability to accept dictation and to recognize voice input through any telephone, a development that can dramatically impact transcription costs throughout the industry.

Enterprise Workstation™--While transcriptionist editing of speech recognition offers attractive ROI opportunities, organizations are finding the best productivity gains can be achieved using Dictaphone’s browser-based Enterprise Workstation, which lets physicians dictate, self-correct, and sign reports from any Internet-connected PC. This alternative gives caregivers once-and-done control over the report creation process, while maximizing transcription cost savings.

The PowerScribe® system is Dictaphone's key departmental solution, offering radiologists, pathologists, and other diagnostic specialties in hospitals and group practices a solution to reducing the costs of turnaround time for dictated reports. With the PowerScribe system, physicians have the added ability to self-edit their own reports using voice commands, via PC and specialized software interface.

mdEssential™ uses speech recognition technology to convert dictation to text documents. Then Natural Language Processing (NLP) finds and extracts key clinical data from the finished text documents. This information is placed in a database that is easy for the provider to access, search, and organize. Through this process, clinical documentation, reports, or notes, are transformed into clinical information. mdEssential offers a very friendly alternative to Electronic Medical Record software. It does not force physicians to make major changes in how they document patient information.

ichart® Managed Services provides a combination of high-quality outsourced transcription and state-of-the-art speech recognition technology. Dictaphone ichart Managed Services has created a Speech-Certified Transcription Network of transcription companies who have committed to editing reports created with Dictaphone’s EXSpeech recognition system–-at rates lower than those charged for traditional transcription. Leveraging the capabilities of Dictaphone’s Internet Data Center, ichart Managed Services also offers dedicated access to our entire family of Speech Recognition and Dictation technology through a comprehensive Internet Subscription-Based Service – all without the initial capital outlay or the need for resources to implement and maintain systems in-house.

By providing a single source for transcription labor and technology needs, ichart Managed Services provides a logical migration path that will reduce reliance on transcription labor, all at a pace and cost that is comfortable and convenient for healthcare organizations.

Commercial Solutions

Dictaphone also provides digital dictation, transcription management, and new Multimedia Archiving solutions for Insurance, Public Safety, and Legal applications.

Enterprise Express offers a centralized solution for capturing and managing dictated voice files for maximum transcription efficiency and optimum archiving and access. Hundreds of users can dictate to the system across multiple departments, and all workflow within the system can be centrally managed—from dictation and transcription through report distribution and archive.

Enterprise Express Multimedia Asset Management & File Storage system eliminates the potential for disorganization and large physical space requirements of having to file and store large “hard-copy” images, video, and audio tapes, often in disassociated file locations, typical of case evidence or claims information. Using the system’s powerful PC-based “Personal Job Lister,” users gain a valuable and convenient resource to collect, manage, and store “Digital Assets” including voice, images, and multimedia.

Straight Talk NE delivers all the benefits of digital dictation systems many times its size, in a solution specially developed for the smaller office or department. It offers flexible dictation input via telephone or portable device, PC-based central digital recording, and voice file management, as well as easy transcription access for more efficient document production.

Company Differentiators
